Couple Arrested For Allegedly Doing Heroin In Front Of 2 Small Children
HEMPFIELD TOWNSHIP (KDKA) – A Westmoreland County couple is facing charges for allegedly doing heroin while caring for their two young children.
According to police, the incident happened at a home on Maruca Drive in Hempfield Township back in February.
When state police arrived, they found Kimberly Henderson, 25, on the floor after an apparent overdose. Her mother was performing CPR when officials arrived and a trooper revived Henderson with Narcan.
"She goes into the bathroom and injects herself with heroin, subsequently overdosing," said Trooper Stephen Limani, of Pennsylvania State Police. "Luckily, her mother was able to go into the bathroom and initiate CPR."
Henderson was taken to Westmoreland Hospital. When she regained consciousness, she told police that she had injected one and a half bags of heroin. She also told police she was using five bags a day.
Her boyfriend, Andrew Henkel, 26, said he injected a bag of heroin before walking to the emergency room.
"At that point in time he made a decision to go into a bathroom in that same house and inject himself with heroin,"said Trooper Limani.
Henkel also told police he was using five or six bags a day.
"They're using 5-6 stamp bags every single day," Trooper Limani said.
At the time of the overdose, Henderson and Henkel were caring for their 11-month-old daughter and 3-year-old son.
Both have been charged with endangering the welfare of a child.
They are being held in the Westmoreland County Jail on $25,000 bond. Their children are being cared for by family.
