Cops: Man Causes $4,000 Damage Stealing Meters; Gets $30
GREENSBURG (KDKA/AP) -- Police say a western Pennsylvania man caused $4,000 damage by stealing four parking meters only to net a mere $30 when he broke them open.
Allen Delgrosso, 51, of Jeannette, has been charged with theft, receiving stolen property and criminal mischief for allegedly taking the meters from a Greensburg city parking lot on Oct. 8.
Police say the 51-year-old man used his pick-up tailgate to loosen several meters. A surveillance picture allegedly shows Delgrosso taking one out. These pictures and video went to area police agencies. Police say it took a few days to find the truck, but police pulled over Delgrosso when they identified his license plate. The parking meters were recovered behind a nearby shopping center.
"The total damage on the meters is approximately $3,900," Greensburg Police Captain Chad Zucco said.
Police say he acknowledged getting only $30 in change.
Delgrosso is awaiting his preliminary hearing. Online court records do not list a defense attorney.
