Cooler Temperatures Moving In Behind Storms, Showers
PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- There's some rain on the radar today as wet weather moves through the area, ushering in some cooler temperatures for Mother's Day weekend.
A few showers are dotting the area this morning.
Then, as a cold front approaches, we can expect numerous showers and gusty thunderstorms for the afternoon and evening.
Some of the storms, after 3 p.m., could contain gusty winds and some hail.
"Those storms, by the way, hooking up with a low pressure system and the advancing cold front, could have some gusty winds and also some hail this afternoon and this evening," said meteorologist Dennis Bowman. "So, those are the main two issues we'd be expecting with regard to severe weather potential in the second half of the day."
The high today comes in around 76. After some thunderstorms this evening, showers will carry us through the overnight hours with a low of 58.
Then, for Saturday, we can expect a few showers in the morning and it will turn cooler with a high of 62. We may see a sprinkle in the area for Saturday night with a low of 44.
On Mother's Day, it will be brisk with variable clouds and a high of just 56.
"As this comes in, setting off the storms this afternoon and this evening, going over to some showers for the overnight period, and [we] still might have a couple of sprinkles out there tomorrow morning," said Bowman. "This is suggesting there could be a shower in the area on Sunday too, but I think basically that's a time for drying things out around here. It's just going to be very cool behind these two fronts coming through."
