Cool Temperatures Today, Some Areas See Lake Effect Snow Bursts

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- Cooler temperatures have moved into the area today and some places are seeing snow this morning, but the good news is that warmer weather is expected this weekend.

KDKA meteorologist Dennis Bowman says bursts of lake effect snow are affecting the area this morning from Allegheny and Westmoreland counties to the north and over in the ridges.

Visibilities have been coming down and there were some slick spot on local roads. Extra caution is advised through early afternoon when the snow showers should begin to shut down.

A Lake Effect Snow Advisory is in effect for Crawford County through noon.

Bowman says today looks mostly cloudy and cold with 15 to 30 mile per hour winds keeping wind chills in the 20s much of the time. The actual high is expected to reach 44 degrees.

As for tonight, Bowman says we will see clearing skies and not as windy with a low of 31.

For the weekend, lots of sun is in the forecast for Saturday with breezy and milder conditions and a high of 56.

Bowman says Sunday is a day of increasing clouds with a shower possible by evening and a high of 62 degrees.
