Consumer Reports Tests New Kindle Fire
PITTSBURGH (KDKA) - Amazon's new tablet computer, the Kindle Fire, went on sale today.
At just $199, it's one of the most affordable tablets, which will put it on a lot of Christmas wishlists.
Consumer Reports took a look at a preview version of the device.
Testers found it worked well to download and stream movies as well as upload music and use apps.
The display looks quite good, although it does have more trouble with glare in bright light than some other tablets.
Testers found the screen very responsive, but it did sometimes mistake a touch for a move, which may take a little getting used to.
"The Kindle Fire doesn't offer quite as much as an iPad. But, it looks like a fine performer, and at $200 dollars, it costs a lot less than the $500 dollars and up you'll for an iPad," Paul Reynolds from Consumer Reports said.
Consumer Reports said the Fire does have limitations.
There's no camera and it has less storage than an iPad. Also, at 7-inches, it's much smaller, although that does make it easier to carry around.
