Emergency officials say the line began to leak when a construction crew accidentally hit the buried natural gas line along Virginia Avenue in Rochester around 12:30 a.m.
The leak caused there to be a strong smell of gas in the area.
Crews shut down the line in order to make those repairs.
A nearby gas station was also closed as a precaution.
