Construction Could Impact Your Weekend Plans
PITTSBURGH (KDKA) – This weekend will be a particularly hard drive for Pittsburghers with the Penguins hockey game, Pitt football game, Sunday's Steelers game, and Occupy Pittsburgh occurring downtown.
Added to the list is construction, where PennDOT District 11 will have several highway and bridge improvements occurring in Allegheny County from Friday through Monday.
Some of the major traffic restrictions this weekend include I-579 Crosstown Boulevard, where there will be overpass improvements. Crosstown Boulevard will be closed from Friday at 11 p.m. to Saturday at 5 a.m. PennDOT said signs will be posted to help drivers.
Expect "significant delays" on I-79 where there will be bridge improvements. From 6 a.m. Saturday until about Sunday at 11 a.m., there will be single lane traffic on I-79 in both directions in the area between the Cranberry and Wexford interchanges.
Drivers in both directions from Washington County to a half-mile north of the Bridgeville Interchange (Exit 54) will be restricted to a single lane until Sunday morning.
On Route 28 , a single, right lane closure will happen on the southbound between the Etna Interchange and Shaler water treatment facility until Sunday at 11 a.m. Crews will be installing caissons for overhead sign structures.
On Route 50, traffic will be reduced to a single lane from Bridgeville to Carnegie in Allegheny County, from Bower Hill Road in Bridgeville to Boden Avenue in Carnegie until Monday morning.
PennDOT advises all drivers to plan ahead before hitting the road because of the highway work zones. PennDOT encourages drivers to allow other vehicles to merge to ease congestion.
