Confession Tape Focus In East Busway Murder Hearing
PITTSBURGH (KDKA) – There are new details in a murder along the East Busway.
One of the suspects appeared in court Friday for his preliminary hearing, and officials played a taped confession of the suspect describing what happened the night of the murder.
Jordan Bey, 16, will be held over for trial as an adult for the murder of 21-year-old Omar Islam at the Port Authority Busway stop in Homewood.
During his preliminary hearing, the Allegheny County District Attorney's Office played a videotaped confession from Bey that he made with the city detectives a few days after the murder.
"'Blue' and Desmond had came up with the idea to go down to the ATM and look for somebody to rob," Bey is heard saying on the tape.
Bey told police he was with Desmond Young the night of the murder when they talked about robbing someone to get some money.
"Desmond punched him and started beating him up on the bench," Bey is heard saying on the tape. "That's when I got close, shot one time in his leg through the phone. I grabbed the phone, Desmond grabbed the bag, we had walked away – as he approached, I had blacked out and fired more shots."
Police say Bey fired five more shots, hitting Islam in the back and then he fired one last shot striking the victim in the head.
Bey told his family about the shooting and turned himself into police. Desmond Young was also arrested and made a taped confession.
Police are looking for one more suspect in the murder identified as "Blue" and they also recovered the cell phone and the murder weapon.
