Computers Stolen From Focus On Renewal Center
McKEES ROCKS (KDKA) -- As police investigate a burglary at a McKees Rocks center which offers assistance to low-income residents, workers and volunteers say the break-in couldn't have come at a worse time.
According to authorities, someone broke into the Focus On Renewal Center on Chartiers Avenue overnight, stole five computer monitors and did some minor vandalism.
"It's a serious blow," employee Sattarah Bolden told KDKA.
"I just can't believe someone would come down here and rob this place," volunteer Marge Campalong added.
The center's executive director, Father Regis Ryan told KDKA that he's glad that the thief or thieves didn't take the computers, which contain information on LIHEAP energy assistance, the food bank, legal aid and other services for low-income residents.
When asked what he would say to those responsible, Father Ryan said, "What can you say to someone who is strung out on something which I'm sure they were: Why do you steal computer monitors for resale? So the only thing you say is you hope they get their life straightened out."
At least 300 to 400 people pass through the center everyday. As a non-profit community organization, people at Focus on Renewal say they can't afford to replace the computer monitors let alone offer a reward to catch the thieves responsible for the burglary.
They're asking anyone who knows about the break-in to call McKees Rocks police or the Allegheny County police department.
Allegheny County police are investigating the burglary.
