Commuters Deal With New Route 65 Detours
PITTSBURGH (KDKA) - Drivers commuting to Pittsburgh faced some changes Monday morning with the first real rush hour test of the new Route 65 detours.
The road is now closed between the McKees Rocks Bridge and the West End Bridge, so drivers had to find alternate routes to get to the North Shore and downtown.
PennDOT reported some minor congestion, but for the most part traffic moved pretty well down Ohio River Boulevard and through the detour without any major delays.
The second half of the test is coming later today with the evening rush hour.
For the next four months, the stretch of Ohio River Boulevard will be closed on both sides. Inbound traffic is now reduced to one lane and diverted to the Beaver Avenue exit.
Traffic is being detoured around a $20 million project to repair bridge decks on Ohio River Boulevard.
One police officer did show up to help regulate the traffic. Police will likely be busy this afternoon keeping cars moving in the outbound lanes.
All traffic heading north will be detoured to the loop at California Avenue, before getting back on the highway.
