Community Remembers Butler Co. Couple Found Dead
SLIPPERY ROCK (KDKA) – A local couple that was found dead in Butler County last month, was remembered Saturday night.
The Slippery Rock Sliders baseball game at Slippery Rock University conveyed a special meaning to friends and relatives of Kenneth and Celeste Abbott.
The couple was found murdered on the sprawling property of their Brady Township home in June.
The Abbotts were minority owners in the Sliders.
Friends described them as a very civic, and community-minded couple, who moved to rural Butler County, from New Jersey after Kenneth Abbott retired from a pharmaceutical company.
Colin Abbott, 40, is charged with murder and State Police said the motive was greed.
The suspect originally told family and neighbors they were killed in a car crash, but, State Police found their remains near their home after a family member became suspicious.
Celeste Abbot's niece, Melissa Green, was at the game Saturday night.
"Hearing about the accident was terrible. We thought it was to rest, that's what happened. Then, the second impact is just very devastating to the whole family," Green said. "It's been an honor to see the community giving us all this love and support."
Mike Bencic, the majority owner of the Sliders said, "Tonight's final game of the season was a way to honor the couple."
The Sliders are in their first-ever playoff game Monday night in West Virginia.
