Community Cleans Up To Remember Man Killed In 2010
CRESCENT TOWNSHIP (KDKA) - A community came together to remember a man killed back in 2010.
Up until his death, Dave Davie worked tirelessly to clean up and keep his town in good shape.
On Thursday, loved ones carried on that legacy.
It was exactly two years today that the 78-year-old Davie was at the edge of his yard, cleaning up some weeds when he was struck by a 16-year-old driver.
Friends and family aren't focusing on the sadness. Instead, they are remembering and honoring all the good Davie did for the community.
"I think he would be really proud of us. I know he is looking down on us right now, smiling," Davie's granddaughter, Amanda Naper, said.
Naper organized a cleanup in memory of her grandfather.
"He just did some much for our community. He would clean the sidewalks, sweep the sidewalks, pick up anything, weed whack and he just did it because he loved it and everyone loved him for it," Naper said.
"He would cut neighbor's yards. He did everything, anything for anybody. If somebody asked him for something, he would give him the shirt off his back. He had no enemies," Davie's daughter, Karen Parker, said.
Naper and Parker focused their cleanup efforts in front of Davie's home along Route 51 in Crescent.
Other crews tackled locations up and down the road mostly picking up trash and cutting weeds.
Police and fire crews were there to help slow traffic and volunteers went over safety tips before heading out.
Even those who didn't know Davie as well, said they wouldn't have wanted to spend the day any other way.
"Life goes on and they're just proving life goes on and they are celebrating his life, not mourning it, but celebrating his life," Crescent Emergency Manager Denny Lewis said.
Family members said they plan to hold a cleanup on this day for years to come.
