Almost 2,000 Columbia Gas Customers Without Service In Donora

DONORA, Pa. (KDKA) -- Almost 2,000 Columbia Gas of Pennsylvania customers were without service in Donora on Saturday.
The company says a construction crew identified an influx of air in the system while doing work in the area around 4:30 p.m.
As a result, crews began shutting off service for about 1,700 customers. They say there is no threat to customers and they are shutting off service out of an abundance of caution.
The gas company said they finished the shut-off service at nearly 1,700 homes at approximately 8 a.m.

In a statement Sunday, Columbia Gas said that technicians will inspect the system before initiating the relight process which is expected to start Sunday morning.
"We anticipate that service will be restored to the majority of customers within the next 24 hours," said the company in a statement.
Warming centers have been opened at the following locations:
- Carrol Township Social Hall -- 130 Baird Ave., Monongahela
- Carrol Township Volunteer Fire Department -- 988 PA-37, Monongahela
- Donora Council Chambers -- 603 Meldon Avenue, Donora
- Charleroi Fire Department -- 328 Fallowfield Avenue, Charleroi
Affected customers can call (724) 379-6600 if they need transportation to a warming station.
The American Red Cross was also sending support to the Carrol Township Social Hall warming center.
