PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- It's going to be another cold day in the Pittsburgh area with a lake effect snow event continuing for places north of I-80.

Any Alert Days Ahead? There's a potential First Alert Weather Day from Wednesday evening into Thursday morning due to a quick blast of snow.  Most should see an inch or less. The impact to the morning rush should be minimal.

Aware: 12-24 additional inches of snow are expected to fall in communities dealing with lake effect snow.

While pretty, please be careful today and mainly tomorrow (Tuesday) morning with the chance for slick spots certainly there.  We all know why slick spots happen with untreated roads during an early season cold stretch being among the most common times it happens.  We have had just enough moisture out there today due to light lake-effect snow showers to bring the chance for seeing a slick spot higher than slim to none at this point.  I don't expect we are going to see any widespread issues, but one or two spots can't be ruled out.

Highs on Tuesday will be close to today.   Wednesday highs will be the warmest of the work week.  I have highs in the upper 30s on Wednesday.

Another blast of cold arrives on Wednesday evening, with us seeing the coldest temperatures of the week happening on Thursday and Friday.  I have highs on both days near 30 degrees.

The cold weather will continue for most of the week.  We are expected to see highs today around 32°.

The cold blast of air, right in the middle of the week, will also lead to our best snow chance so far this season.  Right now model data is showing only around a half inch of snow falling late Wednesday into Thursday, but I wouldn't be surprised if the expected snow totals don't climb to around 2" by tomorrow.

Snow is expected to fall between the evening rush hour on Wednesday night until the morning rush on Thursday and the timing of the event is good for early morning motorists with most of the heaviest snow ending well before the morning rush.

Temperatures do return to highs in the mid-30s on Saturday and more of a seasonal look by this weekend with highs in the mid-30s on Saturday and near 40 on Sunday.
