Colby Armstrong: 'The Penguins Are Changing The NHL'
PITTSBURGH (93-7 The FAN) - The Pens got off to a hot start in the Stanley Cup Final and Joe Starkey brought in former Penguin Colby Armstrong to get his thoughts on the series and what he saw from his former team Monday night.
"I was talking to guys this morning at the rink, and the Penguins are changing the NHL," Armstrong said. "They've gone off the board and gone with this crazy fast team. I don't know if this has been attempted, you know, how many years ago and now it's kind of come around again. They're changing the game, and you know as well as I do, it's a copycat league. You're going to see teams who are going to try to change and adapt to the same thing the Penguins are doing. They figured something out this year and it's been an incredible run."
Having played alongside Sidney Crosby during his time in Pittsburgh, Armstrong has a unique perspective to share on the Pens captain, and says he thought Crosby had an incredible Game 1 effort.
"He was awesome," Armstrong said. "My favorite thing was when he came across the line and just blew through the D-men. There was like three guys, and I was like, 'Am I watching an action movie?' when he just like blasted through that heel to heel thing. He threw a guy one-handed, knocked the puck down with one hand, guys were flipping off him. He's just so strong and he powers through. He just has that extra thing, you know, you can just see it in his step in his game. Who doesn't love watching Sidney Crosby when he's going like that?"
