Colbert: Mendenhall "Ready to Take Next Step"
PITTSBURGH (93-7 THE FAN) -- Steelers GM Kevin Colbert joined "Seibel, Starkey & Miller" live from the penultimate training camp session in Latrobe Friday to discuss the team's latest roster moves.
The Steelers activated longtime nose tackle Casey Hampton from the physically unable to perform list, and, in something of a surprise move, did the same for running back Rashard Mendenhall. Hampton had been nursing a knee injury, while Mendenhall had been out of commission since suffering a devastating knee injury of his own during Week 17 of last season.
"As he continued to work with the trainers, and the strength staff, he felt, and they felt, he was ready to take the next step, which is being able to work with the team, and seeing where he is from a contact standpoint," Colbert said.
Colbert talks in depth about the status of both players, and examines some of the position battles during camp, while telling the guys which defensive player has impressed him most. He also shares his thoughts on "Wallace Watch," as the holdout of restricted free agent receiver Mike Wallace continues.
The Steelers host the Indianapolis Colts in Week 2 of the preseason Sunday night at 8:00.
