CMU Students Protest Coke's Olympic Sponsorship
PITTSBURGH (KDKA) – Students at Carnegie Mellon University are protesting Coca-Cola's sponsorship of the Sochi Olympics.
"Don't let Coca-Cola sponsor hate," many chanted.
They say Coke shouldn't be a sponsor because of Russia's new anti-gay policies.
Last June, Russian President Vladimir Putin signed a law banning public support of the LGBT community.
"Corporations should use their power to make change in countries that need it," said CMU sophomore John Moriarty.
"We targeted Coca-Cola specifically because they are something that college students can make the decision not to drink every day," he added.
CMU is the first campus to participate in a series of protests that will be happening at colleges across the country.
