Closing Arguments To Begin Thursday In Smyrnes' Penalty Phase
GREENSBURG (KDKA) -- Closing arguments will begin Thursday morning in the penalty phase of the trial for the alleged ringleader of the so-called "Greensburg 6."
Earlier this month, a jury convicted 26-year-old Ricky Smyrnes in the murder of 30-year-old Jennifer Daugherty in February of 2010.
The penalty phase of the trial began last week.
In court Wednesday, the defense rested their case after calling their last witness.
The prosecution also called a rebuttal witness from the child bureau.
Following closing arguments on Thursday morning, the jury will begin their deliberations.
Jurors will now have to decide whether Smyrnes spends the rest of his life in prison or gets the death penalty.
