Cleanup Scheduled For Rockslide On Route 28
PITTSBURGH (KDKA) – Tons of rock has fallen along Route 28, and now PennDot says they have a plan to clean it up.
Work will begin Friday morning and drivers will have to share the road.
Most of the rockslide is behind the protective barrier, so contractors will have to work from the side of the road to clear the rocks.
"Once the water gets into the cracks, and you get that expansion and contraction, it essentially breaks the rock apart at some point," PennDot's Steve Cowan said.
Crews will remove panels of the fencing beginning at 10 a.m. Friday morning, and work around the clock to cleanup as much of the rocks as possible.
The contractor could keep the shoulder closed through Monday morning at 7 a.m. if the cleanup isn't finished, so Monday rush hour could be affected.
