Clark: Can't Think Big Picture, Have To Focus on Getting to 2-4
PITTSBURGH (KDKA 93-7 The Fan)- While broadcasting live from Nakama in the South Side for another installment of the Ryan Clark Show, the Steelers' safety told The Fan's Andrew Fillipponi that his interception against the New York Jets was a result of the defense knowing what play that the Jets were running.
"We knew that they were going to run four verticals; it was all about figuring which guy he was going to try to throw to," Clark said. "But he's (Jets' quarterback Geno Smith) going to have those rookie mistakes. Those are things you just have to capitalize on when you get the opportunity."
Steelers wide receiver Emmanuel Sanders celebrated after his touchdown catch against the Jets. Fillipponi asked Clark if he felt like celebrating after his interception.
"I never do," Clark said. "I get excited about big hits, though. It's not necessarily a choreographed celebration; I don't do anything. But you can see the excitement that I'm excited about that play, especially when the big hit changes a catch or gets us a punt."
Clark told Fillipponi that the win over the Jets alone won't be enough to get them in the playoffs. That's why the Steelers have to focus on the game against the Baltimore Ravens this Sunday.
"We're not a good enough football team as a whole right now to think big picture," Clark said. "We have to think (about) getting to 2-4. In order to do that, we have to beat the Baltimore Ravens. But the plus in that is, if you win this week, you also give them another loss, another 'L' in the loss column which puts them even with us in losses for the season."
