Clairton Man Sentenced For 2 Abductions Flees House Arrest, Caught In Atlanta
CLAIRTON (KDKA)- A Clairton man who was sentenced for two child abductions has been arrested again.
The Allegheny County Sheriff's Office says 44-year-old Radford Pope was released from the Allegheny County Jail last Friday and was to serve the remainder of his sentence on house arrest.
Tuesday evening, Pope removed his ankle bracelet and left the home he was staying in.
A bench warrant was issued for his arrest, and sheriff's deputies developed information that Pope was traveling on a MegaBus headed to Atlanta, Georgia. Deputies contacted police down there and officers were able to arrest Pope without incident just minutes after he arrived in Atlanta.
In July of 2011, Pope was charged in a non-custodial abduction where he and the child were located in Syracuse, New York. They were missing for nearly a week.
Then in September of 2014, Pope had taken his then 4-year old son without having custody. He took the boy to the movies and never returned him home to his mother. Police say Pope fled Pennsylvania and was found with the child some two-weeks later in Greensboro, North Carolina.
Pope is being held in the Fulton County Jail in Atlanta and will be extradited to Pittsburgh in the next couple of weeks.
