City Settles Lawsuit For Woman's Claim Of Exposure By Police
CLEVELAND (AP) — An Ohio woman who said a police officer humiliated her when he exposed her body while arresting her has agreed to settle a federal lawsuit against the officer and his suburban Cleveland department for $125,000.
Shajuan Gray, 48, said in her complaint that she had just gotten out of the shower and was wearing only a bath wrap when she opened her apartment door slightly and found a Euclid police officer standing outside in March 2017, cleveland.com reported.
Gray said she turned down the music as asked and told the officer she would get dressed. The officer instead barged into the apartment, pushed her against a freezer and caused the wrap to fall to the floor, Gray said.
The officer refused to allow her to dress while arresting her and told a neighbor to cover her up, Gray claimed. She was taken to the Euclid police station wearing only the wrap. Gray was acquitted of resisting arrest, obstruction of justice and loud music charges in October 2017.
The settlement was reached earlier this month.
Euclid has denied liability in court filings and the settlement agreement.
