City Council Divided On Use Of Red Light Cameras
PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- Not everyone is on board with a plan to install cameras around the city to catch drivers running red lights.
Last year, the state senate voted to allow cities including Pittsburgh to use them.
But City Council members are divided on the idea.
"Some research that we've done is that rear-end collisions have increased by 30 percent, T-bone accidents have decreased in some instances," City Councilwoman Theresa Kail-Smith says, "however it's almost like you're trying to solve one problem by creating another."
There are also other concerns, such as if you loan your car out—the driver doesn't get the ticket, you do.
Council plans to have more discussions before a final decision is made.
