Pirates Pitcher Chris Archer Undergoes Surgery, Expected To Return In 2021
PITTSBURGH (KDKA/AP) - Chris Archer has undergone surgery to relieve symptoms of neurogenic thoracic outlet syndrome, the Pittsburgh Pirates announced.
Neurogenic thoracic outlet syndrome is a condition that can cause pain, tingling or weakness in the shoulder and arm, according to Johns Hopkins University.
Yesterday, Chris Archer underwent surgery to relieve symptoms of neurogenic thoracic outlet syndrome.
Archer is projected to return to full competition for the 2021 season.

Archer and the Pirates consulted with vascular and orthopedic surgeons over the past few weeks and decided the surgery was the best option.
The procedure was conducted in St. Louis. Archer will not be available this season if Major League Baseball finds a way to put together a truncated schedule.
The Pirates were banking on a bounce back year by Archer, who is 6-12 with a 4.92 ERA in 33 starts for Pittsburgh since being acquired at the 2018 trade deadline from Tampa Bay.
The 31-year-old is expected to return to play in the 2021 season.
