Children's Hospital Patients Appreciative Of Generous Xbox Donation
PITTSBURGH (KDKA) – Children's Hospital received a big donation today, but it wasn't cash or medical supplies.
A total of $25,000 worth of Xboxes, video games, movies and tablets were wheeled into Children's Hospital this morning.
"It's really a distraction for the patients as well as the families as they come to visit," Luke Sossi, of Microsoft, said.
The Make Room for Kids program is now in its sixth year.
It was started by local blogger Virginia Montanez, and collaborated with Microsoft and the Mario Lemiuex Foundation. Since its creation, they've installed over 200 Xboxes at Children's Hospital.
Taylor Hampshire, 19, of Hermanie let KDKA-TV's Heather Abraham play a soccer game with her.
She's been coming to Children's Hospital for eight years for treatment and spends at the very least, three to four hours at a time in the infusion unit.
"It's an extra bonus to have this game system. It makes you think that you don't even have anything wrong with you," Hampshire said.
Nancy Angus, Executive Director of the Mario Lemieux Foundation, says their work isn't over yet.
"There are a lot of more floors at Children's that we can do, that we can put more Xboxes in. Hopefully, we can do 200 more, get to 500," Angus said.
In addition today, some older game consoles delivered in previous years were replaced.
Those units also received new movies and games.
