Car Crashes After Police Attempt Traffic Stop; Children, Heroin Found In Car
CARRICK (KDKA) -- A traffic stop Wednesday afternoon took a dangerous turn when a car refused to pull over then crashed.
It started when Pittsburgh Police, driving an unmarked vehicle, attempted to pull over a silver car on Brownsville Road around 4 p.m.
But the driver had other ideas. Instead of stopping, he made a quick turn onto Linnview Street, blew through a stop sign and crashed into a white Chevrolet at the corner of Linnview and Amanda streets. The crash happened less than a block away from where police attempted to make the traffic stop.
Debbie Buzzelli told KDKA-TV's Ralph Iannotti that she and her husband were at home when the heard the crash.
"When we hear that big boom, we knew exactly what happened," she said. "I said, 'Oh my god, it was a wreck.'"
Police handcuffed the driver and took him into custody.
Three children in the car with him – ages 6, 7 and 8 – were taken to the hospital to be checked out, but did not appear to be seriously hurt.
The driver of the other car suffered minor injuries.
Police said they found heroin in the silver vehicle.
Buzzelli said her daughter, Anna, stayed after school late Wednesday, and she was glad she did.
"She walks home, she walks down that street every day about 4 p.m.," she said. "When it happened, I got paranoid. I said, 'Oh my god, I hope my daughter wasn't in that mess.'"
