By: KDKA-TV News Staff

CHEAT LAKE, W. Va. (KDKA) - Seven people were injured after a boat explosion on West Virginia's Cheat Lake Sunday evening.

CBS affiliate WDTV reports a spokesman for the West Virginia Division of Natural Resources says the boat had just refueled around 6:40 p.m. at Edgewater Marina when the operator tried to start the engine. That's when the explosion happened.

The DNR spokesman reportedly said eight people were on the boat at the time.

The seven injured people were taken to a local hospital, and two were eventually flown to a burn treatment center in Pittsburgh, WDTV reports.

DNR police are investigating.
