3 Arrested After South Side Police Chase Ends In Violent Crash
SOUTH SIDE (KDKA) -Three people are facing charges after a chase and a violent crash on the South Side.
Police were initially called to the 3100-block of Cordell Place in Arlington Heights around 3 a.m. for a reported domestic violence incident.
A female victim called police and said the suspect fled in a Jeep. She also said he was armed with multiple guns.
"The actor had assaulted our domestic violence victim so they initiate a traffic stop," Pittsburgh Police Chief Cameron McLay said. "There's a compelling need for officers to take someone like that into custody for the protection of the community."
Shortly after, police spotted the suspect's vehicle and he led them on a chase toward the South Side Flats.
The chase ended when the suspect's vehicle struck another car head-on. Two women and a man inside the suspect's vehicle fled the scene of the crash. They were quickly arrested a few blocks away.
"Recovered from the vehicle, from the actor's vehicle, is an AK-47 assault rifle. Three individuals, two males, one female are taken into custody," McLay said.
The man inside the car that was hit head-on by the suspects' vehicle was trapped inside his car. Officials were able to remove him and take him to UPMC Mercy Hospital for treatment. He was last listed in stable condition.
The two men in the suspect's vehicle received treatment for minor injuries and were taken to the Allegheny County Jail.
The suspects have now been identified as Robert Newland and Carl Green III, both 24, and Shania Williams-Harriott, 22. All are facing a list of charges, including loitering and prowling at night and flight to avoid apprehension.
Green is also charged with simple assault, firearms not to be carried without a license, former convict not to possess and criminal mischief. Newland is charged with fleeing and eluding, and reckless endangerment.
Williams-Harriott is also facing criminal mischief.
