Charles Davis On Steelers' Draft Options: 'Evans, I Think, Fits Perfectly'

PITTSBURGH (93-7 The Fan) -- NFL Network analyst Charles Davis joined "The Fan Morning Show" on Wednesday to offer his take on the NFL Combine. He also discussed what players the Steelers should keep an eye on and what he thinks of Pitt DT Aaron Donald.

Davis sees Texas A&M wide receiver Mike Evans as a major target for the Steelers, likening him to Plaxico Burress.

"Although he's not as thick as Plax, he's willowy like that," Davis said. "He's a longer version of him."

Davis feels that Evans could rise or drop based on the speed numbers he puts up at the combine.

"My concern about Mike Evans is what does he actually run?" Davis said. "Because those long-strider guys, sometimes you get mesmerized by them, and you think that maybe they're either going faster than you thought, or sometimes you think they're not as fast as I thought. I've been told- and we will see at the combine - that he could run a high 4.4 time. And if that's the case, then game, set, match, off he goes."

Davis sees another wide receiver as a potential option for the Steelers at No. 15.

"I wonder if Kelvin Benjamin from Florida State - 6'4"/6'5", 230 [pounds] - fits into what they're looking for, or is that too rich for their blood at the pick that the Steelers have?" Davis said. "Evans, I think, fits perfectly, but there will be competition to get him before that. I think [Penn State's] Allen Robinson, that's too high for him even though I really like him."

As for Donald, Davis thinks that a path has been paved for him to be a high pick despite his size.

"He's still got a little bit of growth left to kick in," Davis said. "A little bit undersized, not super-tall, but production doesn't lie. Senior Bowl week, against ostensibly some of the best in the country, they didn't block him. He was phenomenal, and all I kept hearing from every scout out there, and every GM - Geno Atkins, Geno Atkins. Well, Geno Atkins' career has done a lot to help Aaron Donald guys, because in the past, at his size and dimensions, he probably would have been taken where Geno Atkins was taken, which was a fourth round pick. He's going to get first round consideration and will go no later than the second round."
