WEST MIFFLIN (KDKA) -- It's the end of a shopping era... Century III Mall will be closing its doors.

Stores at Century III Mall are still open for business, but some customers are sad to hear the news that it has been put up for sheriff's sale.

"It was always a nice place to shop so it will be greatly missed," shopper Becky Fleming said.

"I've been coming here since I was about 8 or 9 years old," shopper Hazel Dragone said.

The memories are what some customers here at Century IIl Mall are holding onto the most.

"I got my first kiss at Century III Mall. That's why enjoy coming here," shopper Paul Ribarchak said.

Notices are posted inside the mall publicly announcing the sheriff's sale.

"We're not shocked. They've never lived up to a lot of things, the expectations they gave us," West Mifflin Borough Manager Brian Kamauf said.

West Mifflin Borough Manager Brian Kamauf is talking about Moonbeam Capital Investments, the Las Vegas Company that bought the mall several years ago.

"We were very open and willing to work. We invited them to a lot of meetings and set them up with influential people in the community and nothing seemed to take over the last few years," Kamauf said.

Kamauf said the borough hoped to redevelop the mall but now he's just ready for someone else to buy the property. Whenever that happens, he said it might not end up being a mall. Kamauf said West Mifflin won't be affected by the loss.

"This has been going on for so long now our business plan pretty much looked at the mall as not there so financially very little impact on West Mifflin," Kamauf said.

The sheriff's sale is scheduled for June 4 at 9 a.m. in the Gold Room at the Allegheny County Courthouse.
