CBS Analyst Phil Simms Breaks Down NFL Line-Ups
PITTSBURGH (93-7 The Fan) NFL on CBS color analyst Phil Simms spoke with The Fan Morning Show on Thursday to offer some insight on the Week 2 matchup between the Steelers and Jets.
Simms wasn't surprised by Peyton Manning's performance against the Steelers on Sunday, but that the Jets and QB Mark Sanchez's stellar outing wasn't shocking, either, given what they were up against.
"They did play the Buffalo Bills, he said. "The Bills were absolutely awful on defense, just awful, and they weren't much better on the offensive side."
Simms feels that Manning was helped by Ryan Clark's absence, because it caused Troy Polamalu to be stretched thin.
"I'm a big Ryan Clark fan," he explained. "I think it's a big deal when he's not in the lineup... I didn't get to see Troy Polamalu. [Polamalu] was truly like a safety."
Simms also thinks the Steelers should be heavily emphasizing the passing game, but said they should work out a good run-to-pass ratio as time passes.
"I would have a hard time as an offensive coordinator not putting almost everything on Roethlisberger," Simms said. "It's a tough balance, but they'll find a way to work it out."
