Cathedral Of Learning Vandalized With Graffiti
PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- It's a Pittsburgh landmark, but someone vandalized the Cathedral of Learning on the University of Pittsburgh campus over the weekend.
The damage was estimated at $65,000 to $100,000, because the spray painted letters are so difficult to clean off the sandstone walls of the building's interior.
Police say someone painted the letters "WRC" in a hallway Saturday morning. The letters were 12 feet by 4 1/2 feet, according to police.
They say the student charged sat down outside the building and waited afterward. Danial Khan Yousufzai faces a felony charge of vandalism, according to police.
The letters WRC stand for Worker's Rights Consortium, a group that works with universities to monitor factory conditions where university apparel is made.
There's a group of students who want Pitt to begin working with WRC. But in a recent Pittsburgh Post-Gazette article, a university spokesperson stated that the school is satisfied with the monitoring group it's already working with.
