Carrick Residents Upset After KKK Recruiting Signs Are Left On Parked Vehicles
CARRICK (KDKA) -- It's happened few times over the past several months.
The Ku Klux Klan may be trying to recruit members from our area. Folks in Carrick woke up Saturday morning to find the leaflets posted on their vehicles.
"You'd think after all these years this would be over with. It's ridiculous," says Carl Conner, of Carrick.
That's how some are reacting to a Ku Klux Klan flier that showed up on the streets overnight.
A flier that reads "Save Our Land, Join The Klan from the Loyal White Knights" was found on the windshields of dozens of cars parked in the 2200-block of Brownsville Road.
A resident who did not want to be identified found a flier on his car this morning.
"It just surprises me," he said. "This is such a diverse neighborhood. With so many different cultures in this neighborhood and everything, I was like, really in this neighborhood?"
The flier lists a website, a hotline number and an address in North Carolina.
Other than the Loyal White Knights, there's no other mention of race. But people we spoke with say they know the message.
"There's other things in the world that we should worry about before race. Color is color; we're all the same person, and for people to put that on cars is ridiculous," said Maria Breier, a Carrick resident.
"This is a racist thing, and it's horrible because everybody's… people is people," added Bridget Honick, another Carrick resident.
One neighbor believes the fliers were put on cars early Saturday morning while most people were asleep.
Pittsburgh Police had no comment about the fliers. In the past, law enforcement agencies have stated that groups like this are within their First Amendment rights.
This isn't the first time flyers like these have been passed out in the area.
Back in April, similar fliers were found on telephone poles and tucked into car door handles in parts of Canonsburg and Emsworth.
