Car Crashes Into McKees Rocks Business Overnight
McKEES ROCKS (KDKA) -- A Pittsburgh man is facing charges after a car lost control overnight and crashed into a business in McKees Rocks causing lots of damage and leaving three people hurt.
The accident happened around 12:20 a.m. at the intersection of Chambers Street and George Street.
Hours later, a pile of busted glass and rubble sat in front of Carol Ann's Corner Store again.
"The front of the store has been hit in the past," says Chief Robert Cifrulak, of the McKees Rocks Police.
The car was reportedly trying to make the turn onto George Street when it went out of control, up and over a curb and then slammed into the building.
Investigators have identified the driver as 23-year-old John Kuth of Pittsburgh and his passenger as Francisco Sanchez.
They suffered minor injuries in the crash; however, another person would be hurt as well.
"Apparently, a 56-year-old who was inside the building, inside the Corner Store, was pinned somehow - trapped between the car and the wall," said Chief Cifrulak.
The victim, identified as John Kapko of McKees Rocks, suffered an arm injury and was taken to the hospital.
"Speed was obviously a factor in this case," Chief Cifrulak said. "We're suspecting the driver was intoxicated, both the driver and his passenger - who is the owner of the vehicle - showed signs of intoxication."
As the car was pulled from the building, video gambling machines were plainly visible.
"There's a number of businesses and restaurants and whatever in McKees Rocks that have these type of poker machines," said Chief Cifrulak. "They pay a licensing fee and they are monitored through our ordinance enforcement."
And as long as the machines are for entertainment purposes, they're legal.
There are no estimates on damage to the building, but officials say the driver will be facing driving under the influence charges and reckless driving counts.
