Teenager Taken Into Custody After Stealing A Car In The Mall At Robinson Parking Lot
PITTSBURGH (KDKA) - A police chase through the Mall At Robinson Parking lot on Sunday afternoon lasted only a few hundred yards but ended with several thousand dollars in damage.
Witnesses said the sound of crashing vehicles stopped them in their tracks and running to see what happened.
Robinson Township Police said early on Sunday afternoon, they were alerted to a stolen vehicle on the mall's property.
That's when an officer turned on his lights and then the 16-year-old driver took off in the Macy's parking lot.
"He hopped the curb, went through the light-up sign out front, he hit for rent sign it was next to, and he flipped over the car and hit a bunch of cars and they all just like crushed in between," recalled Jeff Butya, the manager of All-Star Sports Bar and Grill.
Butya said the bar is where the chase came to a violent end.
"In Robinson Township this is nuts, you never see it happen," he said. "You get people who speed up and down but never a police chase through the mall, it's unbelievable."
He recalled that the teenager crawled out of the car after it flipped over.
Police said he was checked out at the scene and then taken into custody.
No injuries were reported as a result.
The Robinson Township Supervisor on duty said there aren't any charges as of yet but some are to be expected.
