Café Opens At Point State Park

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- The aroma of fresh coffee and spinach pies lured guests to Point State Park Friday morning.

It was the grand opening of the Café at the Point.

The family-friendly concession is owned by the Department of Conservation and Natural Resources, and sponsored, in part by the non-profit Riverlife.

"Point State Park was one of the world's first symbols of greening downtown," Riverlife president Lisa Schroeder announced from the podium.

"One of the first brownfield revitalization projects, one of the first public-private partnerships and I think we're so proud today to be able to continue that tradition."

The PNC Foundation and employees provided the bulk of the $670,000 cost.

Concessionaire Chahine Boulos offers a varied menu.

"Hot dogs, spinach pies or french fries," he said. "However, we have a variety of vegetarian items, four to five different salads, lot of subs and steak sandwiches."

Point State Park averages 2.7 million visitors a year. Chahine and his wife, Michele, hope that many of them place orders at the Café at the Point.

Café hours are 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. seven days a week.
