Butler Co. Man Charged With Abusing 7-Week-Old Baby
BUTLER TOWNSHIP (KDKA) – A Butler County man is facing charges in connection with the alleged abuse of his infant child.
Tyler Duddy, 25, of Butler Township, is facing several charges - including aggravated assault and endangering the welfare of a child.
In June, the 7-week-old child was taken to Children's Hospital with a skull fracture, brain bleed and facial bruising. Police say they believe the baby may have had his head rammed into a wall.
Duddy had sole custody of the 7-week-old child, and his Facebook page is filled with photos of the baby.
"Mr. Duddy admitted to an incident at the apartment where the child's head was struck off a wall," said Detective Thomas Vensel, of the Butler Township Police Department.
It happened at an apartment in Butler.
The baby's maternal grandfather is now wondering if he should have done more to help raise the baby.
"I just think he got to the breaking point and he snapped," Jimmy Keis, the grandfather, said.
KDKA's Paul Martino: "That's no excuse is it?"
Keis: "No, it isn't."
Now, Keis says he is trying to keep his anger in check, adding that he doesn't want to end up in jail alongside Duddy.
Keis: "I did not get a hold of Tyler, though, 'cause I know what I would have did if I would a got a hold of him."
Martino: "What?"
Keis: "Probably ripped him apart."
Duddy is in the Butler County Jail under $75,000 bond. He is charged with aggravated assault and endangering the welfare of children.
The baby is doing better. He's out of the hospital and in foster care, but there are fears he could have suffered permanent brain damage.
The baby's mother is in the hospital with an undisclosed illness.
