Busy Weekend Ahead In The 'Burgh
PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- It's going to be a busy weekend in Pittsburgh.
Pitt versus Notre Dame is one of the highlights of the year for Pitt fans and local Golden Dome alumni.
The parking lots at Heinz Field open at 7 a.m. Saturday.
"If you don't have a parking pass, our advice would be to go directly to Allegheny Center," Ralph Reetz with ALCO Parking, said.
"Parking's available to the public there for the price of $15 and there's a fair amount room there that's available to the general public."
While Pitt and Notre Dame are battling, the Penguins and Wild will cross sticks at the CONSOL – far enough away there should be no conflict.
But back on the North Shore by mid-afternoon, Pirates fans will be arriving for a big night with the Reds.
"Well it's just a little bit of a challenge to get the one crowd in and get the other crowd out on time," Reetz said. "As long as everyone is cooperative and comes after 4:30 p.m. we don't think it will be a problem."
The post-game concert by the Steve Miller Band is certain to assure a sellout for the Pirates and a big day for North Shore cash registers.
"We're going to open up early," Rob Bolte, with Rivertowne Pub, said. "We open up at 9 a.m. tomorrow. We usually open at 11 just in anticipation of a full day of just people down here enjoying themselves. Hopefully the weather stays nice and it's going to be great."
The Great Race means road closures Sunday morning along Beechwood, Fifth and Boulevard of the Allies, but they shouldn't conflict with the Pirates' final home game of the year at 1:35 p.m.
If you're not into sports this weekend, don't forget Pittsburgh is the star of Taylor Lautner's new film, "Abduction" which opened Friday.
