Business Owners Cleanup Muddy Mess Along Route 51 & 88
PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- Businesses along Routes 51 and 88 spent Friday evening hosing and shoveling mud away after flooding earlier in the day.
Matt Phillips from Warp Speed Motorsports says nearly every car at his business was flooded when Saw Mill Run went over its banks.
Jim Andreits from the A1 Auto Mart said it was a true flash flood, and the worst he's seen since Hurricane Ivan in 2004.
Fortunately, he got his cars to higher ground before the water got to them, but mud caked his lot and part of his business.
Anthony Miranda had to crawl out the window of his car when water came up fast.
Meanwhile, a Pittsburgh firefighter was taken to the hospital for back pain after helping rescue someone from flood waters.
The chief of emergency services for Allegheny County, Alvin Henderson, says it was a lot of rain in a two-hour period and that it overwhelmed storm sewers.
He says they received 929 calls to 911 between 1 p.m. and 4 p.m. Friday.
