Business Owner Shot & Killed In Penn Hills
PENN HILLS (KDKA) - Allegheny County Police are working on determining a motive continuing the investigation into who killed 53-year-old Ken Stubbs and why.
Stubbs was well known in the Homewood and East End communities. He owned several businesses in the area, including auto sales shops.
On Sunday morning, he was found shot to death in Penn Hills.
"A passing motorist called 911 to report a person laying by the side of the road," Allegheny County Police Lt. Andrew Schurman said. "There they found a black man with what appeared to be multiple gunshot wounds. He was pronounced dead there at the scene."
Police believe the shooting happened around midnight Saturday into Sunday, but the body was not found until Sunday morning.
Last night, detectives swarmed Stubbs' businesses, hoping to find any evidence to link them to a motive.
On Hamilton Avenue, a neighboring business owner said he knew Stubbs since he was a little boy.
"To see one of them lose their life, especially the way he lost his life, it's sad. It's really sad. I'm just so sorry to hear it and see it," William Baker said.
On Monday, police did not have much more information to release as they work to develop leads.
Police are waiting for the results of the autopsy and continue to talk with and look for additional witnesses.
In 2006, Kenneth Stubbs, who operated an autobody shop, sat in his business, dressed in his work uniform and talked with KDKA-TV's Bob Allen about the shooting death of his 17-year-old cousin James Stubbs.
"He was a good kid. He tried to stay out of trouble. He stayed mostly to himself," said the elder Stubbs.
And then, while searching for an explanation about the shooting death of the teenager outside Lincoln School in Homewood, Stubbs said this:
"It's just whats happening now, Bob. It's the only answer I can give you. I mean its him today...how many tomorrow?"
Eight years later Ken Stubbs himself is counted among the many. His body was found in a wooded area of Penn Hills, shot multiple times.
Police think that while the body was discovered Sunday morning, shots heard at midnight may be relevant.
Stubbs owned a number of business interests, including an auto sales and notary business on Hamilton Avenue in Homewood. Police have search some of those businesses looking for clues.
Nearby store owner Baker was shaken.
"He's always been a gentleman to me. He's always treated me with utmost respect," said Baker.
"It is a shame. I'm sorry to hear that. I mean that sincerely," he added.
