Business Owner Burned In Fayette City Blaze
FAYETTE CITY (KDKA) - A Fayette City car repair shop owner was burned this morning while trying to save his business from a fire.
Owner Greg Haines was siphoning gas out of a car when it caught fire. He tried to contain the blaze on his own, but it was spreading too quickly.
Fayette City firefighters were able to get the fire under control, but not before it caused heat damage to the entire interior of the garage.
Chief Jim Eley says the situation could have been catastrophic given all of the chemicals in the building.
The Fayette City Fire Department is just a few blocks from the car repair shop.
The owner says this was the scariest day of his life, and he thought he was a goner when his shirt caught on fire. He says he is thankful for the firefighters who responded so quickly.
The building was badly damaged, but is not believed to be a total loss.
