2 Killed, Several Injured After Bus Crashes On Turnpike
PITTSBURGH (KDKA) - Officials with Seton Hill University have now released the identity of one of the people killed when a tour bus carrying the school's women's lacrosse team crashed this morning on the Pennsylvania Turnpike in Cumberland County.
The university identifies the victim as Kristina Quigley. She was the women's lacrosse team's head coach.
According to a statement from the university, Quigley was pregnant with her second child. The unborn baby also died as a result of the accident. Click here to read Seton Hill University's full statement.
Quigley leaves behind a husband and young son.
The statement from the university reads in part: "The Seton Hill community is mourning the loss of Kristina Quigley and her unborn son. The University extends deepest sympathy to Quigley's husband and family."
The university reports that the bus driver was also killed in the crash. According to the Associated Press, the bus driver has been identified as 61-year-old Anthony Guaetta of Johnstown.
According to the university, at least three others suffered serious injuries and were taken with by medical helicopters or ambulances to Hershey Medical Center.
Several others suffered minor injuries. University officials say eight people were taken to Carlisle Regional Medical Center, seven went to Harrisburg Hospital and four are being treated at Holy Spirit.
The accident happened around 9 a.m. on the Turnpike near Carlisle, Pa. The team was headed to a match against Millersville University in Millersville, Pa., the university reports.
According to Seton Hill University, the bus they were traveling on was chartered through Mlaker Charter and Tours of Davidsville in Somerset County.
Federal records show the company's vehicles have been inspected 45 times over the past 24 months. Only three buses were taken out of service. That's well below the national average.
Also, their drivers have a clean record over the same period of time.
There's no word yet from state police on the cause of the crash.
The university is planning a memorial Mass for the victims. It will be held on Sunday at 7 p.m. in the campus' Saint Joseph Chapel.
Seton Hill says Quigley was in her second season with the women's lacrosse program. She was a native of Baltimore, Md., and a graduate of Duquesne University.
