Burglars Target Cell Phone Stores At Waterfront

HOMESTEAD (KDKA) -- Police say they're beefing up patrols at the Waterfront in Homestead after a pair of smash and grab burglaries.

The most recent theft occurred just after midnight early Tuesday morning when someone used a hammer to break into the AT&T store through the front window.

The burglar got away with several thousand dollars in cell phones and tablet computers, but left behind the hammer.

A few, the Verizon store at the Waterfront was also targeted by a burglar. He broke the front window and made off with electronic notepads.

It's not known if the burglaries are connected.

Police brought in a dog to track the AT&T burglar, but had no luck.

Mobile phone stores and stores that sell electronic devices have become favorite targets for burglars.

Within the last year, the Apple store in Shadyside was hit twice. A T-Mobile store on Fifth Avenue downtown was also burglarized.

So far, there have been no arrests.
