Burglaries Put Monroeville Neighborhood On Alert
MONROEVILLE (KDKA) -- Monroeville police have increased patrols in the Glenwood development made of mostly townhouses after a string of four residential burglaries.
The thefts usually happened between 7:30 p.m. and 10 p.m. The thief gets in by smashing a plate glass door.
One victim who did not want to be identified told KDKA-TV says the thief tracked glass through the house.
Valuables, including old Italian jewelry and her father's wedding ring, were stolen. A lot the items are irreplaceable, according to the victim.
She has since put in a new security system.
A woman who has lived there for more than 20 years, Irmgard Haislup, always felt safe, but since the burglaries, she's decided to put outdoor lights in her front and back yard as a precaution.
The neighborhood has set up a crime watch and reported three suspicious cars in the neighborhood. They have provided plate numbers to police, but no arrests so far.
