Police-Involved Shooting Leaves Burglar Dead
SEWICKLEY (KDKA) - Allegheny County Police are looking into a police-involved shooting that happened late Monday night in Sewickley.
The home at 302 Thorn Street sat quietly in the rain Tuesday morning, empty after 24 hours of turmoil.
At the center of it all, a self-proclaimed shadow warrior and former Army Special Operations veteran, 27-year-old Robert Brooks, of Poteau, Okla.
"What we know is, throughout the course of the day, there was an ongoing domestic disturbance at this residence," said Lt. Andrew Schurman, of Allegheny County Police.
Then, late Monday around 11:30 p.m., more signs of trouble.
"There was a burglary call at the residence, and a number of officers responded from municipalities and when they entered the house to investigate the burglar alarm, they encountered a man," Lt. Schurman said.
Police say that man was Brooks.
"There was a physical alteration during which shots were fired," said Lt. Schurman. "The person, the intruder in the home was shot and he was transported to a local area hospital where he was pronounced dead from those wounds."
The home's owners were believed to be Brooks' brother, Chad, and his wife, Sarah. They weren't home during the alleged break-in.
Court records show the couple and Brooks had a history of protection from abuse orders after Brooks repeatedly threatened them.
According to police, at one point he allegedly told his sister-in-law that he looked forward to suicide by cop.
