Route 51 Reopened After Fire Prompts Road Closure
PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- An intense fire prompted the closure of part of busy Route 51 in Pittsburgh's Overbrook section on Saturday night.
The blaze broke out after 9 p.m. in a one-story building located on Route 51 and Whited Street.
The building where the fire started is a garage that houses two businesses, a contracting company and a tree company.
It appears the fire first sparked in the tree company business where chemicals caused a lot of smoke.
The cause of the fire is under investigation, but it appears to be an accident.
Route 51 was shut down in both directions so firefighters could run lines across the road.
Both the southbound and northbound lanes reopened to traffic around 11 p.m.
Stay with KDKA for the latest details.
