Bucs Split Double Header With Brewers
PITTSBURGH (KDKA/AP) -- The Pirates finally got a win off the Milwaukee Brewers, beating them 9-2 in the second game of a double header at PNC Park Monday.
The Brewers took the opener 8-1 for their 13th straight victory over Pittsburgh, but the Pirates pounded Milwaukee ace Zack Greinke in the second game.
Greinke (12-5) gave up seven runs and seven hits in 6 1-3 innings in losing for the first time in a month. The defeat was just the fourth in the last 23 games for the NL Central-leading Brewers.
After Ryan Doumit homered in the fourth, the game was tied at 2-2. The Pirates' offense came alive in the seventh as they tallied seven runs to take the win.
Josh Harrison began with an RBI double. Greinke walked Andrew McCutchen which allowed Matt Diaz to score. Jose Tabata then doubled, batting in Harrison.
Xavier Paul's single drove in McCutchen, Doumit drove in Tabata and Garrett Jones batted in Paul. Then Neil Walker scored after a wild pitch by Frankie De La Cruz.
Brad Lincoln held the Brewers to just two runs on three hits over six innings. Daniel McCutchen gets the win, allowing just one hit in the seventh.
It was a different story for the Pirates in the first game.
Chris Narveson pitched shutout ball and knocked in two runs after coming off the disabled list. Ryan Braun hit his 25th homer for the Brewers, who have won 19 of 22 to open a comfortable lead in the NL Central over second-place St. Louis.
Narveson (9-6) gave up five hits and struck out three before leaving in the sixth inning after having an issue with the nail on the middle finger of his left hand. The injury didn't appear to be related to the left thumb laceration that sent him to the 15-day disabled list this month.
Jeff Karstens (9-7) allowed two runs and six hits in seven innings, walking one and striking out five.
