Bucs: Pirates, McLouth Close To Deal
PITTSBURGH (93-7 The FAN) — The Pittsburgh Pirates appear close to bringing back former outfielder Nate McLouth to the organization.
The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette's Michael Sanserino broke news of the negotiations Tuesday evening from the second day of baseball's Winter Meetings in Dallas.
McLouth was in the Pirates organization from 2000-09, spending five years in the big leagues. In that time he was a .261 hitter.
McLouth's most successful season came in 2008 when he hit .276 with 26 home runs and 94 RBIs. He was traded to Atlanta in 2009 and has since been plagued with injuries that forced him to miss roughly half of the past two regular seasons.
If McLouth were to sign with the Pirates, he'd add veteran leadership to a young outfield comprised of Andrew McCutchen, Jose Tabata and Alex Presley.
There is no word on what the terms of the contract are rumored to be at this time.
