Bruins' Savard Returns To Ice After Post-Concussion Syndrome
BOSTON (KDKA/AP) — On March 7, 2010, Boston Bruins center Marc Savard suffered a concussion when he was hit from behind by Pittsburgh Penguins Matt Cooke. Savard was sidelined for the final 18 regular-season games and didn't return until the second round of the 2010 playoffs against Philadelphia.
Savard then missed all of training camp before the 2010-11 season because of post-concussion symptoms. He returned to the ice over the weekend after being medically cleared to practice.
After Cooke's hit to the head on Savard, NHL owners and the NHLPA unanimously agreed to penalize blindside hits to the head with major penalties and ejections.
The new rule was the biggest development from the league's board of governors meeting, held one day before the NHL Draft at the Staples Center.
