Bruce Springsteen Coming Back For Concert At Soldiers & Sailors Hall
PITTSBURGH (NewsRadio1020 KDKA) - The Boss, Bruce Springsteen, rocked CONSOL Energy Center and left fans wanting more. Luckily, for them, he announced last night that they won't have to wait long, he will be back in Pittsburgh sooner than most anticipated.
Springsteen will be back to preform two shows with Joe Grushecky and the Houserockers on May 22 and May 23 at Soldiers and Sailors Memorial Hall and Museum.
Grushecky took the time to come on the KDKA Afternoon News and talk with Bill Rehkopf about last night's concert as well as the two coming up. They talked about what it was like performing on stage with Springsteen and performing one of Bill's favorite songs "Light of Day."
"In '95, we did concerts where he would come out and play with my band as our guitarist for a while before he re-formed the E-Street Band and we were practicing in New Jersey and he picked that song and actually taught it to the band in rehearsal. We've been playing it with Bruce before the E-Street Band played it with Bruce. It's a signature song that he always does with the Houserockers," Grushecky said.
They talked about the upcoming shows that Springsteen will join Grushecky for in May, both are sold out. But what is it about Soldiers and Sailors that keeps bringing Springsteen back?
"The vibe in there is fantastic, and I think that's one of the reasons why Bruce loves doing it so much. It's just an artist of his stature, it's hard for him to do these small, intimate theater gigs with the E-Street Band... would be ridiculously demanding," Grushecky said. "With us, we could go in, we got a smaller band, we can play a more loose type show and it's very, very intimate. There is not a bad seat in the house."
So, when they play together, how they decided on the playlist?
Grushecky says it's simple. They switch back and forth. The band will play one of theirs, then follow it with one of Springsteen's songs, and even include some of the songs they wrote together. They may even throw a few oldies in their just for fun.
